Today the BBC reports on a nurse who who has retired after 51 years of dedication. There is an armed forces covenant by which we show appreciation for present and former members of the armed forces. Do you think we should have a similar scheme for NHS past and present workers? The 16 Days of Action against gender-based violence runs until 10 December, Human Rights Day.   4 December 2025  Compiled by Tony Wallis of 'Talk Castleford with Tony’ Good morning, people of Castleford.  Although our town enjoys relatively low levels of vehicle crime, as reported in 'news' below, incidents do happen from time to time, so it’s worth being aware and taking a few simple precautions. Busy places such as Junction 32, Xscape, and our popular residential streets attract plenty of visitors, wonderful for the local economy,  but they can be an opportunity for unwanted attention. A calm, sensible approach to security goes a long way. Recent data highlights that Glasshoughton currently has the highest rate of vehicle crime in the district. In September, police reporting 16 incidents per 1,000. It’s worth noting that, according to West Yorkshire Police, the Ford Transit remains the vehicle most frequently targeted by thieves.   1 December 2025  Compiled by Tony Wallis of 'Talk Castleford with Tony’ Good morning, people of Castleford.  Yesterday, I took the family to see ‘Wicked; Gone for Good’ at Escape’s Vue Epic. A bit long for the kids but they enjoyed it. Personally, I am intrigued by the character of Elphaba who is good and caring, but even those she thought were friends turn against her. Reminds me of a dark side of politics. The movie’s message is an apt one for the 16 days of action. Too many people believe the nasty lies they are told and, when they finally discover the truth, do nothing. It's not everyone. In the movie there are a few who do understand, don’t believe the gossip and are prepared to help. Should we go along with the crowd or should we challenge, to champion those who are being persecuted? Outside Xscape, the kids had another treat - the Arriva Christmas bus had arrived.
