CASTLEFORD DAILY BRIEFING 4/12/2025 - 10 STEPS TO PREVENT VEHICLE CRIME / NEWS / EVENTS
4 December 2025
Compiled by Tony Wallis of 'Talk Castleford with Tony’
Good morning, people of Castleford.
Although our town enjoys relatively low levels of vehicle crime, as reported in 'news' below, incidents do happen from time to time, so it’s worth being aware and taking a few simple precautions. Busy places such as Junction 32, Xscape, and our popular residential streets attract plenty of visitors, wonderful for the local economy, but they can be an opportunity for unwanted attention. A calm, sensible approach to security goes a long way.
Recent data highlights that Glasshoughton currently has the highest rate of vehicle crime in the district. In September, police reporting 16 incidents per 1,000. It’s worth noting that, according to West Yorkshire Police, the Ford Transit remains the vehicle most frequently targeted by thieves. That doesn’t mean everyone needs to worry, but it does remind us that small, consistent habits can make our vehicles far less appealing targets.
To help keep you, our neighbours, and our visitors safe, here are 10 straightforward tips that really do make a difference:
- Make sure your car is locked.
- Close all your windows and the sun roof when leaving your car.
- Keep your keys safe.
- Keep your keys in sight if someone else (like a prospective buyer) has them.
- Avoid leaving valuable or attractive items in the car. If you do have to leave them, hide them. Similarly, avoid leaving tools in your van and while working keep them in a secure tool chest, making sure they are clearly marked.
- Keep vehicle documents, such as insurance details, on your person rather than leave them in the car.
- Park sensibly. Avoid secluded and, at night, unlit areas.
- Use security screws to attach number plates.
- Use locking wheel nuts.
- Search online for further security advice that is relevant to your vehicle’s make and model.
I trust you find these hints helpful. Now for news and event listings, I hope you find useful.
