CASTLEFORD DAILY BRIEFING 4/11/2025 - NEW USE FOR A HISTORIC BUILDING / NEWS / EVENTS

4 November 2025 Compiled by Tony Wallis of 'Talk Castleford with Tony’

Good morning. I am pleased that the council is bringing the former Mechanics Institute on Sagar Street into community use following its sale to the private sector and then being bought back with government money. I do not like it being referred to as Kingdom Hall, its last use, when its official name is the Old mechanics Institute, reflecting the historic nature of one of the town centre’s oldest buildings.

Have you visited the re-opened Magnet on Ponterfact Road? If so, tell us what you think of it.

The Tigers’ bonfire night is so popular, tickets are sold out.
