10 December 2025

Compiled by Tony Wallis of 'Talk Castleford with Tony’

Good morning, people of Castleford.

Today, Human Rights Day, is the final day of the 16 Days of Action against violence against women and girls. There's a huge thank you to all who showed they care by supporting the 16 Days.

On 10 December 1948. most nations of the world, including the UK, proudly declared the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, so that the people of the world would be safe from tyranny, violence and persecution that was common to many during and before the Second World War.

Although vociferously attacked and misrepresented by some, the landmark document enshrines the inalienable rights that everyone is entitled to as a human being - regardless of race, colour, religion, sex, language, political or other opinion, national or social origin, property, birth or other status. It has brought peace and security to many in the UK and elsewhere.

You can read the text of the declaration here

https://www.un.org/en/about-us/universal-declaration-of-human-rights

Do you agree with it, or if you don't, which section do you disagree with and why?
