I'm may be cold and wet outside but today is one of those days when you feel the warmth travelling between households, workplaces, schools and streets. It’s a day when people quietly do something kind, or loudly do something brave, with the aim of helping children who deserve a chance to thrive. Whether you’re wearing spotty socks, baking buns, running a challenge, or simply popping money in a collection tin, you are part of a great national effort that changes children's lives. Any support, big or small, is deeply appreciated. Every gesture creates ripples of hope.

In today’s roundup you’ll find a little bit of everything: the good news that the Valley Gardens play area is now open, inspiring achievements, developments that will brighten family days out, opportunities for local businesses and jobseekers, events to look forward to, reminders that keep us all organised, and a few snippets that you might want to pass on to friends or neighbours.

Let me know your bonfire night tales. Today, two good news items about improving our town centre. The third of three murals has been given the go ahead. This is for the Bancroft Road subway. The subway has had a reputation for being unfriendly but this news marks a positive change. I'm looking forward to the 'Destination Castleford' boards. What do you think of the idea?
