COUNCILLOR WALLIS - ENVIRONMENTAL AUDIT OF FRONT STREET AT GLASSHOUGHTON 8/9/2025

COUNCILLOR TONY WALLIS

ENVIRONMENTAL AUDIT - FRONT STREET,

GLASSHOUGHTON MONDAY 8 SEPTEMBER 2025

Summary: The Audit found no issues of littering of concern, apart from the undeveloped land that is opposite the Malt Shovel.

The audit:

The pavements on both sides are free from litter.

The “glass steps” are free from litter except for about 6 empty cans spaced out along the edge of the steps. There is also one bag of rubbish at the bottom that I have reported.

I did notice the barrier that was once at the top of the steps has been removed. It had been erected to discourage a large group of young adults that used to gather there. However, it did cause problems for some users.

There is a lot of litter on the spare land opposite the Malt Shovel, at the side of the pavement. The land itself is privately owned. I have asked the council to clarify whether the owner or the council is responsible for keeping the strip of land next to the pavement litter free.

The listed building (the urinal) and the bus stop there are free from litter. The state and appearance of the building itself is being looked at by the community and the council.

Conclusion.

At the time of the audit the area had a very low amount of litter apart from the unused land.
