CASTLEFORD DAILY BRIEFING OF NEWS AND EVENTS 27 SEPTEMBER 2025
Compiled by Tony Wallis of 'Talk Castleford with Tony'
Start with the good news - the naming of the train after Rob Burrow CBE (more below) and then - why is Chequerfield Lane in Castleford? Today's Daily Briefing of News and Events in Castleford.
Earlier in the year, Castleford Civic Society asked me, as a councillor on the transport committee, to approach Northern Rail about naming a train after Rob Burrow CBE. It turned out, it was a popular idea that came from many people, including the rail company employees and the council itself. I am delighted the train naming took place at Castleford railway station yesterday. More under 'news' below.
The council has just issued a press release of road investments in the district. I've put the section in Castleford below. Does anyone know why Chequerfield Lane is in the list? Isn't it in Pontefract? And does anyone know where Chalkbalk Lane is?
Pleased to find out that there is a road off Austin Road called Poppy Fields Crescent, such a lovely name.
