CASTLEFORD DAILY BRIEFING OF NEWS AND EVENTS 17 SEPTEMBER 2025

 Compiled by Tony Wallis

I found last night’s talk by Dave Smith about Castleford in the early 1800s interesting. In this talk, hosted by Castleford Historical Society, Dave gave a captivating picture of the people and buildings at a time when Castleford changed from being a humble village to the beginnings of a town. Have you heard of place names like High Road (the main street) and the Castle Hotel? Can you imagine what Castleford was like at this time?

A list of future talks planned by the friendly people of the society is given in 'Events' below.

I’m also looking forward to Dave Wilders’ talk on Thursday night at Queen’s Mill about Phillips Potteries. Starts 7pm.

Every morning I compile a helpful briefing of the latest news and events for Castleford. Initially intended to help me as a local councillor, I now publish it to the public. I hope you find it useful.
