- Talking Transport is your opportunity to share you views on public transport and help shape West Yorkshire’s new Weaver network. - On June 29th I attended the annual meeting of FOCAL (Friends of Castleford Library) where I was re-elected treasurer. Thank to members of FOCAL and library staff for the excellent events held during the year at the library and museum, with over a thousand visitors attending the Roman Day family activities.
- Crashmap has published its road accident statistics for 2023. In that year our ward had three serious accidents, all on Ferrybridge Road, two of which were at the top of the hill outside Queen’s Park.
- A man has been issued with a Criminal Behaviour Order (CBO) for shop-lifting in Castleford banning him from Carlton Lanes, Sainsbury’s Store, and the Lidl Store on Park Road,
- In October 2025, a new directive removing permitted development rights for HMOs of six beds or less comes into force. This means changes of dwellings into such HMOs will need planning permission. HMOs over 6 beds already require planning permission.
- On the 19th June the planning committee approved an application to demolish some buildings along the town centre side of the river and replace them with a riverside park. This is a major part of the town centre regeneration.
- Following on from the success of the Welbeck Street mural, work is starting on 4th July on another, this time on Tickle Cock Bridge. The artist is Emaline North. It incorporates a new poem about the town. Funding is from Transpenine Route Upgrade’s first and last mile project.
- Armed Forces Day is this Sunday 6th July 2025 at Pontefract Park. This year’s event is being hosted by the council’s events team.
- Gleeds Cost Management Ltd has submitted a planning application, on behalf of the council, to change the use of the Old Mechanics Institute Building on Sagar Street to a community building.
