CASTLEFORD DAILY BRIEFING 25/11/2025 CHRISTMAS LIGHTS SWITCH ON TODAY / WHITE RIBBON DAY / NEWS / EVENTS/ SURVEYS

25 November 2025 White Ribbon Day
Compiled by Tony Wallis of 'Talk Castleford with Tony’
Good morning, people of Castleford. Today the Christmas lights switch on and White Ribbon Day.
16 Days of Action against domestic abuse starts today, White Ribbon Day.
Unfortunately, abuse against others, especially women and girls, still occurs at various degrees within our communities. This year’s White Ribbon theme is “Stand Up”. It’s not just about expressing opposition to abuse. It’s also about making it known by action that such behavior is not acceptable.
Most men abhor abuse against women and girls. We men need to get it across to those few that don’t that such behaviour is hurtful and will not be tolerated.
We must also acknowledge that men and boys can be victims too so, this is about making society safe for all.
I want to see a better Castleford where people, no matter who they are, can visit public areas, travel about the town and be in their home safe from abuse, safe from intimidation, safe from bullying. I hope you agree. If you do, stand up and say so.

You might have noticed I’ve changed the bulletin’s banner for the 16 Days of action. Spot the differences? The town crier is a woman, to show it’s not just a man’s job, and the color scheme is more orange, the colour of the 16 Days of Action.
Today, Christmas Light switch on. Looking forward to being there. The fun starts at 12 noon and after the schools close come into town to join in the family activities, including in the library activities from 3pm, arranged by staff and the Friends of Castleford Library (FOCAL).
Thanks again to the Really Useful Box company whose butterfly lights (the butterfly is its logo) make Castleford’s lights so brilliant and unique. What are your thoughts of the event? What about the lights?
