Autumn is a lovely time for walks and experience the crisp air, leaves on the ground and even conkers. What is your favourite Castleford Autumn place? Queen’s Park with its squirrels? Another park? Fryston Wood? A walk along the canal? Let me know.


Autumn also brings Hallowe’en and half-term. There’s plenty of family events to look forward to as listed under ‘Events’ below, including an author signing her books. I’m looking forwards to taking the grandkids to events in the town centre, the haunted house at Junction 32 and I expect they’ll enjoy the creepy crawly trails at Nostell. 




Former Castleford Tigers coach, Danny McGuire, takes up a new role; the Rugby League Impact and Growth Manager at the Leeds Rhinos Foundation.

Yorkshire Smoke free Bus

The bus will be at Junction 32 (next to Next) on 13th, 20th, and 27th October. It will also be at Queen’s Mill 28th October.

Carved pumpkin competition for children. Collect pumpkins from 23rd October 2025 (2pm start) and 24th from 10am, and return on 30th. Judging on 31st.


Hollowe’en events


Pumpkin Patch. Kids can pick their own pumpkin, carve it into a spooky masterpiece, and snap a photo with seasonal scarecrow and wheelbarrow displays.

Pontefract Market – Wednesday 29 October, 10am til 3pm

Castleford Market – Thursday 30 October, 10am til 3pm

On Friday October 31, a pumpkin trail takes place from 10am to 3pm at Castleford market.

 COUNCILLOR TONY WALLIS - JANUARY 2025 NEWSLETTER     HAPPY NEW YEAR I trust you had a good start to the New Year (freezing stormy weather apart.) TRAIN AND TRACK I reported a couple of months ago the the canopy on Carlton Street was to be taken down. It has now happened. This is financed by the Transpenine Route Upgrade “first and last mile” fund. This will also fund improvements to Station Road, Tickle Cock Bridge and the Beancroft Road subway including CCTV and enhanced lighting. TransPenine Express has increased the frequency of its train journeys between Manchester and York via Castleford and Wakefield to one an hour, seven days a week.  I have expressed our gratitude for this to the train company while pointing out aspiration for some services to go to Scarborough. Residents turned out in force to mark the 80th VE Day anniversary, while families enjoyed a record-setting Roman Day. Plenty of good news: a fresh look for our buses, more police on our streets, awards for our children’s homes, and appealing public art.    80th ANNIVERSARY VE DAY On Thursday 8th May, I stood at Castleford War Memorial as wreaths were laid in memory of the fallen. Moments like these remind us of the great sacrifices made and the importance of not forgetting them. After the ceremony, I visited the market hall to view the display organised by the Friends of Castleford Library about the town during the war and the celebrations on VE Day.   On Saturday 10th I took the family to join in the Crusaders’ celebration at Queen’s Park.
