Society with branches across Wakefield celebrates employability programme which has helped 1,000 people

Colleagues at Yorkshire Building Society, which has a branch in Castleford, celebrate the success of a partnership with FareShare, which helped over 1,000 people improve their employability prospects.

Heritage Open Days





Pumpkin Patch. Kids can pick their own pumpkin, carve it into a spooky masterpiece, and snap a photo with seasonal scarecrow and wheelbarrow displays.

There are questions to ask - why are shops in the town that seem to be trading well closing? If it's just on-line shopping to blame, why aren't all shops closing?  COUNCILLOR TONY WALLIS - JANUARY 2025 NEWSLETTER     HAPPY NEW YEAR I trust you had a good start to the New Year (freezing stormy weather apart.) TRAIN AND TRACK I reported a couple of months ago the the canopy on Carlton Street was to be taken down. It has now happened. This is financed by the Transpenine Route Upgrade “first and last mile” fund. This will also fund improvements to Station Road, Tickle Cock Bridge and the Beancroft Road subway including CCTV and enhanced lighting. TransPenine Express has increased the frequency of its train journeys between Manchester and York via Castleford and Wakefield to one an hour, seven days a week.  I have expressed our gratitude for this to the train company while pointing out aspiration for some services to go to Scarborough.
