Every morning I compile a helpful briefing of the latest news and events for Castleford. Initially intended to help me as a local councillor, I now publish it to the public. I hope you find it useful.

We are fascinated by the new mural at Tickle Cock Bridge. For contrast, this how the rejuvenated underpass looked when it was opened 17 years ago. I took this short film on a camera; there were no smartphones at the time.

Rugby League: Catalans end losing run against poor Castleford

“Reimis Smith grabbed a hat-trick as Catalan Dragons ended a losing run of six Super League games with a comfortable 38-4 victory against a toothless Castleford Tigers at Stade Gilbert Brutus.”

Residents turned out in force to mark the 80th VE Day anniversary, while families enjoyed a record-setting Roman Day. Plenty of good news: a fresh look for our buses, more police on our streets, awards for our children’s homes, and appealing public art.    80th ANNIVERSARY VE DAY On Thursday 8th May, I stood at Castleford War Memorial as wreaths were laid in memory of the fallen. Moments like these remind us of the great sacrifices made and the importance of not forgetting them. Acquisition of acquiring buildings is taking longer than expected so the government’s deadline has been extended to the end of March 2027, subject to projects being able to demonstrate contractual commitment by March 2026.
