Grand week out with seaside in the town comes to Castleford
The week kicks off with Tigers Day on Monday 18 August 2025, with indoor games, picnic spaces and toddler play areas throughout the week. On Friday 22nd and Saturday 23rd, the outdoor sandpit and the funfair rides return.
Transpennine Route Upgrade projects proceeding
The Transpennine Route Upgrade’s First and Last Mile programme is well on the way in Castleford town centre at areas close to the railway station.
The Station Road approach has been upgraded with a better surface, planters, improved lighting. Two murals (at Welbeck Street and Tickle Cock Bridge) have been completed with a third at the Breancroft Road underpass due to start soon. As a security measure, CCTV cameras are being installed.
Wakefield Council marks VJ Day 80th anniversary
Friday 15th August 2025, to mark the 80th anniversary of the end of the war with Japan. A service is also being held in Castleford.
