“Where was the petting zoo at Carlton Lanes?” Some are asking on social media. I have a theory - that, contrary to what was implied in the poster, only one of 3 Carlton Lane’s events takes place on each of the 3 days. The petting zoo, therefore, will only take my place on the last day. It’s because of that confusion that I didn’t list it in this post’s event page.

Every morning I compile a helpful briefing of the latest news and events for Castleford. Initially to help me as a local councillor, I now publish it to inform a wider audience. I hope you find it useful.

New play area coming to Valley Gardens in Castleford

The council has invested £99,000 in a new play area, replacing one that was outdated. It is expected to open later this year.

Residents turned out in force to mark the 80th VE Day anniversary, while families enjoyed a record-setting Roman Day. Plenty of good news: a fresh look for our buses, more police on our streets, awards for our children’s homes, and appealing public art.    80th ANNIVERSARY VE DAY On Thursday 8th May, I stood at Castleford War Memorial as wreaths were laid in memory of the fallen. Moments like these remind us of the great sacrifices made and the importance of not forgetting them.
