Every morning, to make my work as a local councillor more efficient, I search the web for a daily briefing of news and events. While it was originally for my benefit, I’ve realised it is a service to share with others. It is a briefing so just headlines and sources I’ve come across and checked.

Saturday 19 July 2025, 11:30am-5pm Castleford Male Voice Choir - Party in the Park 2025 -– Queen’s Park Castleford

 A family fun and live music event, featuring performances from: 

  •  Melodia
  •  Fairburn Singers
  • Castleford Young Musicians
  •  Castleford Salvation Army Band

Plus, craft stalls, bouncy castle, donkey rides, food and drink and more.

TRAIN AND TRACK I reported a couple of months ago the the canopy on Carlton Street was to be taken down. It has now happened. This is financed by the Transpenine Route Upgrade “first and last mile” fund. Residents turned out in force to mark the 80th VE Day anniversary, while families enjoyed a record-setting Roman Day. Plenty of good news: a fresh look for our buses, more police on our streets, awards for our children’s homes, and appealing public art.    80th ANNIVERSARY VE DAY On Thursday 8th May, I stood at Castleford War Memorial as wreaths were laid in memory of the fallen. Moments like these remind us of the great sacrifices made and the importance of not forgetting them. Acquisition of acquiring buildings is taking longer than expected so the government’s deadline has been extended to the end of March 2027, subject to projects being able to demonstrate contractual commitment by March 2026.
