Business news: Castleford-based Premier Technical Services Group, a provider of specialist services to the facilities management and construction sectors, has acquired UK Safety Management (UKSM). UKSM offers electrical compliance and safety testing.

 A Criminal Behavior order has been issued to a 44year old man banning him from Carlton Lanes, Sainsbury’s on Swawthorne Lane and Lidl on Park Road for shop lifting.

TRAIN AND TRACK I reported a couple of months ago the the canopy on Carlton Street was to be taken down. It has now happened. This is financed by the Transpenine Route Upgrade “first and last mile” fund. Residents turned out in force to mark the 80th VE Day anniversary, while families enjoyed a record-setting Roman Day. Plenty of good news: a fresh look for our buses, more police on our streets, awards for our children’s homes, and appealing public art.    80th ANNIVERSARY VE DAY On Thursday 8th May, I stood at Castleford War Memorial as wreaths were laid in memory of the fallen. Moments like these remind us of the great sacrifices made and the importance of not forgetting them. Acquisition of acquiring buildings is taking longer than expected so the government’s deadline has been extended to the end of March 2027, subject to projects being able to demonstrate contractual commitment by March 2026.
