TALKING CAS NEW YEAR EDITION - 1926 TO 2026, A CASTLEFORD CENTURY

Image
Castleford 1926-2026 image created using AI to add humour to the narrative.  it is not an accurate depiction of the town over those years. Happy New Year, Castleford As we step into 2026, we’re also stepping into a truly special year, one packed with centenaries that help tell the story of who we are, where we’ve come from, and where we might be heading next. And the second is the Old Mechanics Institute on Sagar Street, recently bought back by the council, getting the go ahead to become a community building. A fit use for what was a long time a well used public asset. Did you know, it even served as the town's library before the Ca...

I am happy to be at the official opening of Tiger Thai at the Glebe Street / Vicker Street junction. We are pleased that, after years of hurdles, Tiger Thai is in business at last, showing persistence pays. Serving starts at 5pm tonight. 10 December 2025  Compiled by Tony Wallis of 'Talk Castleford with Tony’ Good morning, people of Castleford.  Today, Human Rights Day, is the final day of the 16 Days of Action against violence against women and girls. There's a huge thank you to all who showed they care by supporting the 16 Days.  On 10 December 1948. most nations of the world, including the UK, proudly declared the Universal Declaration of Human  Rights, so that the people of the world would be safe from tyranny, violence and persecution that was common to many during and before the Second World War.  Although vociferously attacked and misrepresented by some, the landmark document enshrines the inalienable rights that everyone is entitled to as ...
